- I am a human rights researcher based in Jakarta, currently finalizing my traveloque A Nation in Name: Debunking the Myth of Indonesian Nationalism. It took me to travel to more than 80 places inside Indonesia such as Miangas Island and Ndana Island. I published 'Agama' Saya Adalah Jurnalisme, an anthology on journalism, and co-edited Jurnalisme Sastrawi on narrative reporting, all in Indonesian Malay. I helped set up Jakarta's Alliance of Independent Journalists, the Institute for the Studies on Free Flow of Information, Pantau Foundation and the Bangkok-based Southeast Asia Press Alliance. I am a member of the International Consortium for Investigative Journalists. In 1999, I received the Nieman Fellowship on Journalism from Harvard University. Jember, a small town in eastern Java, is my hometown.
